As we were established in Tube well colony Handia daily we were facing difficulty on account of frequent electricity break downs and roaster of 0nly 6 hours daily.The weather there were so hot that we purchased hand fans and we used to cool ourselves with Khas Khas ki tatties( MATS) and we had to keep a water boy in summers. While inside doors we had a long cloth fans hung from the ceiling of the room and we used to pull the string by feet and we get some air.Some times the peon also pressed into service to wave these cloth fans .Due to hot weather and bushes around the colony had a great problem of mosquitoes bites.I still remember that some red rashes developed on the body of Montoo when he was hardly a year old.In the colony there was only one family of my J E civil Sh Maqbool Alam and other JEs were not keeping their families with them.As such I had to keep an eye on them because they used to run away from site and the work used to suffer.Once I had to be so hard with one of JE Sh S P Verma who out of revenge brought a re card player and the song was he used to play like this ",CHORON KO NAZER ATTEN HAI SUB CHOR" As I got information that the record player and the song was meant for me .So I got him transferred to some other division .While going to other place he tried to harass me by sending fake complaints.Later on the whole staff started to cooperate with me in performing the Govt duties.As there was no canal all the farmers depended on tube well water for irrigation and drinking the same water also.I used to come to Allahabad once a week and used to see movie and take round of market and purchase the ration and other house hold items and return back to Handia.I still remember that as we used to take diner or lunch the manager of Ginza Hotel used to give feeding bottle of milk for Montoo and he did not charge any thing and it was complementary from the hotel for those families who had kids.Some times I had to come to Allahabad as the divsion headquarters was at Allahabad.Anu had a good friend when she was at Handia as Sh Maqbool Alam"s daughter was also of her age.In years 1974 to 1975 1976 there was a draught conditions in Allahabad and the ground water went down and the tube wells became out of order and there was a great hue and cry for water.In my subdivision alone about 100 tube wells were closed and about 1oo of villages were affected due draught and the cattle's began to die.One of the socialist party MLA sat on dharna in tube well colony Handia and the matter was raised in U P assembly regarding closure of Tube wells.I raised the demand of submersible pumps and motors to solve the problem.The central ministers also started the Pad Yatras and Sh V P SINGH the then ministerof commerce came to Handia to inspect the tube wells.The local workers raised the question of closure of tube wells and in the meeting with officers I was called to explain .I told them that AE had financial power to place orders upto Rs 250/ per mon th and E E had got power Of Rs 5000/ per month and that SE had got power of Rs 15000/ per month .As such with such power it was difficult to run the Tubewells and to put them in order.The then minister then asked the officers whether the statement of mine was correct? This matter was reported in Indian Express under the heading " Whose Power "I was immediately given the instruction s that I should rush to Lucknow and get the supply order of at least 100 submersible motors and to meet him in Delhi if the firm DELTON CABLE DaryaGanj Delhi did not deliver the motors in time then I should report to him .Accordingly I acted and came to Delhi for Motors and when I found that the firm was not co operating I phoned to the Minister And I had got the R/R of Motors and rushed back to Allahabad .In those years the govt ordered that all the ponds be filled water and that no irrigation charges would be levied.I remember that I got a appreciation letter from the then District Magisterate SH B K Goswami for running the tube wells and saving so many lives.After completing the tenure of 3 years at Handia I was transferred to 2 nd sub division Saidabad with headquarters at Allahabad.
