Comparison of life in USA and Canada( during June upto 27 th September 2007)

While in USA as I had mentioned earlier that when I used to go for walks I met some sardars and some Gujratis and other Asians too.While talking the sardarji told me that when they were sitting in the park near fremont and they saw some young people enjoying and just playing .All of a sudden some of the yuongesters noticed them .They thought that their privacy was being disturbed so they came in a block and they took away their turbans and they returned the same when they were sure that they had not noticed any thing. After that incident they never went to that park again.In USA all the payments are made through cradit cards and every entry is made and the receipts are given invariably.There are less trasanctions in cash .Every body is bound to give tax.The Indians are hardworker and highly qualified like soft ware engineers and Doctors and they are well of and can earn handsome salary.But as the tax is too much they have to shed about 30 % tax out of their earnings.One of my friend helped me in curing diebates by advicing me to have morning and evening walks.

While we were in USA at California we were feeling rather isolated and thinking what the fun people get when they leave their mother land.For one week we were thinking what to do when our son and daughter in law were away to their respective jobs.Even the little kid also went to the school.We remained at house and just waited for the arrival of our son , daughter in law and Little grand daughter.Some times we used to went to the park nearby .We any how carried on this routine and daily going for walk in the park.By going to the park we developed the friendship with some of Indians .There are Gujarati's Sikhs and others south Indians .Some Punjabi's families were also befriended with us and we spent some time in the park.One day an old sardarji was sitting in the park and he was facing his back towards the lady sitting near the swing in the children park .I asked him why he was facing his back and sitting away from the lady.He replied that he was saving his honour .I asked him how then he told me that if by chance the lady had any objection and she called the police and she might say any thing and then he would be in trouble as the laws of USA go in favour of ladies and children.If any thing happens then immediately the police comes.He then narrated that once his grand son got hurt by falling from the bicycle and he was weeping in the house and the neighbour heard the voice of weeping of the child and he phoned to the police.In a spur of the moment the police came and started the questioning from the child.The child got frightened and he told that the mother had beaten him.The sardarji told that the boy was fallen from bicycle ans as such got heart .His mother was summoned from the work place and she replied that she had not beaten the child.Then sardarji also told that his daughter in law was not had a sound mind and he told them that she had not got the license of driving and even then she drives the car.So she should be pardoned so after much persuasion the matter was settled and the police went away.In another incident I was told that if you have got child and you have left the child alone in car then you can be sued.Every couple should have a baby seat and belt in the car .If any couple has twins in that case he should have two baby seats in the back seat of the car.In California the public transport system is not up to date and the frequency is not very fast.Generally all the citizens have cars and all the work is done by cars.Even the people go to purchase all the routine items of
daily use from the malls and use their car .If you have to go for hair cut then you need a car.So if you have no work permit ten you cannot survive.USA is costlier than Canada as regards rented accommodation and living cost.If you are not the citizen or a green card holder then you cannot get the medicine without the doctors advice.So if any body who is not a citizen has not any medical facilities.Only in blood relations can call their parents and support them .
If any item of the house hold is not required or is surplus or it is got defective it will be left out side the house and it can be lifted by any body.Most of the people notify and hold garage sales for surplus items or they can also hold garage sales if they are transferred to other of part of USA and they don't want to shift.All the houses are sold as fully furnished just to move in .
In Fremont alone about 10000 Indians live and all over we can find indian restaurants .Even you can have half baked ROTIES or even GOL Guppas Indian shops.Postal service is also very fast and if you want to send some letter then you have to lift the arrow fixed on the letterbox an d the post man will take out the letter and post it to its destination.Idea is that you have not go to the post office to drop that letter.Most interesting thing I noticed that if any body or family go to visit any other family and they have get together then they usually take a bottle of whisky and other items as mark of good gesture.It is in the same way as in India when we visit to our friend or relative we use to take fruits or sweets for the host family.You will not find so many people on the road.Mostly people use cars and some times you can find people on bicycle and there is a separate pavement for bicycles. Continuing with the case of Janakpuri I remembered that I lost the genuine case due the fact that my advocate did not put his whole efforts to win otherwise I would have won the case .Any way I had appealed in the high court.But the advocate here also taken the full fee before submitting the case and he had received the Fee Rs 35000/ in advance and extra for file of Rs 10000/for file and Rs13000/ for printing volume about 10 copies booklets for checking by the Court.I do not see any end of the case and just hoping against hopes.It will continue.............

After retirement I am pursuing a court case against Deepak Sabherwal and l who had made my signatures on the property papers of my Janak Puri DDA flat and sold it to some Manaktalla and this case has been lingering in the court for the last 13 years in Tis Hazari court and it is strange that I lost the case in the lower court and now I have appealed in the High court .

As there was no work as past time I started to take interest in social activities in the M block saket and remained the secretary of M block Saket R W A for about 4 years and I had tried to serve to the best of my knowledge and efforts but I found that it is also not worth pursuing and people think it is a thankless job.I tried to serve better by registering a separate association and to add some cultural activities with the help members of about 40 members .It is just in a primary stage and I try to high light some of the problems of the area. some of the difficulties I am facing and it may be solved later on .

Continuing with love for children I remember that I used to narrate the one story which I had heard when I was in Class 5 th in Ramjas School Karol Bagh New Delhi . This story was entitled as MITHAI KA DESH".I think I told this story to Montoo as well as to ANU. Now I had told this story to their children Ashi , SONI ,etc.I used to tell the story of BOB the builder to Soni and it was a good time pass and I used to relish by telling the stories like Ramayana and Mahabharata etc. to kids .I also sometimes narrated poems to kids like ,"Twinkle twinkle little star ,How I wonder what you are, Up above the world so high , like a diamond in the sky " and counting poem like " one two buckle my shoe three four shut the door five six pick up the stick seven eight lay them straight nine ten a big fat hen. "
I had read only one novel " David Copperfield "that too in the text book of 10 Th class and I remember some of the characters , Dora and some of the sentences uttered by the aunt ,"When a man eats less , sleeps less, and talks less there is always lady in the case " and another character , Mr Micawber who used to say, good thing may turn up and he was involved in some case and when he was to be hanged then some one asked him whether he was hopeful any good news to that he replied that some thing good would surely turn up and wonder that an order from high Court came and he was taken down from the gallows " I still remember a few lines of some poem " .Belshazzar at his throne moving to and fro " and another lines from the poem The Pied Piper of Hamlin , " Lunch on crunch on take your luncheon, and another old poem , ," Radiant of features regal of mean , seven hand maids for the Persian queen "

While making arrangements of marriage of my son I was thinking that had it been before my retirement the things would had been different and I must had got so many helping hands but every event had a fixed date and time. All has been fixed by God and we have to act according to HIS wish.I had been very happy and all the arrangements went quite well. I did not know from where I got energy and as such I danced and enjoyed the most. Another feather was added when my son was blessed with a cute daughter and I became Dada and my wife became DADI.We have given name to my grand daughter as Aanya.Which means the Light or Jyoti.In our religion we think that baby daughter is called Lakshmi who brings all the good luck and fortune.My wife had seen USA earlier alone at time of birth of Aanya an d recently I have been to USA and enjoyed the trip to USA and Canada which we would not forget.
We have so much love and affection for Anu"S two sons ASHI and Amitabh.ASHI is elder to Soni ( Amitabh).They so often come to our place and we enjoy their company too.
My attachments with younger ones is great.I remember that whenever any body used to thrash a kid I used to leave that place .I also cont see the child weeping .Once when I was preparing the bottle of milk for feeding I was not allowed and I became and threw the bottle on the wall out of my love and affection and told my daughter that I cound not control my self and I uttered words like my love is great for kids is great .My throwing of bottle was meaningless just subside my frustration and later on when I restored calm I was normal and the bottle being of plastics was not broken.Some times my sincere feelings used to be challenged then I don't know why become furious.My Bauji used to say that when one felt annoyed and could not control his rage he should drink a glass of water and just remain calm for some time and he would be alright .One should not take undue stress on himself.I feel some times that I carrying Montoo on my shoulders and enjoying the bliss of showing him the moon.In the same way carrying SONI on the back and saying ATTE KI BORI.In the same way some times playing with Ashi and I was astonished to note that ASHI could tell the make and model of so many cars by just seeing the steering wheel.Now as I had visited USA and I played with Aanya and I am seeing as if Iam playing with Aanya and I con "t forget her charming smile When Aanya was in India she used to say ," So many cows or so many dogs ......" Likewise I enjoyed the smile of small kids Isebelle and Darion at Canada.Elders always remain tensed as such I try to refrain their company.

After we had set up on the first floor we were facing problems with the tenant at G F who started harassing us by not giving any rent for the last 2 years and on the other hand started demanding money for vacating the ground floor.his demand was not acceptable and I had to go to the Court for justice and after about one year it was decided that the house in question was to be vacated .the tenant then locked the G F and shifted some where else.One day he was about to sublet the G F and I had to call the police He after great difficulty was convinced by the police that he should vacate. He then agreed and gave me the keys of G F .when we saw the condition 0f G F it was in a bad shape .even the floor was broken and we had to spend about 3 Lacs to renovate.Now we shifted to G. F .The tenant on the B F was some Afghans refugee. His term in India was over and he was migrated to USA and thus the B F was also vacated by good luck.As Afghan's was vacating he did not give keys to me and the keys were with one of his relative.He was also reluctant and made so many excuses but I had to be harsh with him so he also vacated .Once I met the SDM who told me that I did a mistake to give the whole house on rent .I admitted that I was not aware the bad conditions in Delhi.He also pointed out that no body gives the house on rent to Kashmir's and Afghans and I had made a blunder in that way .i had so much praise that they helped me whenever I was in need of it being a senior citizen.So some body also suggested that I should call my daughter and family and son 's family and live in our own house and it would be safe.One day it so happened that I felt pain of Hernia and this time from right side .With the help of Dr Ahuja I had got it operated from Maharajah Agersain Hospital Passim Vihar.In the same hospital I got the rod of Montoo extracted from his right leg .It was OK and then Montoo felt better and I thanked GOD for successful operations. Shashi was operated upon in Apollo hospital and his gal bladder was removed and after that she felt better.Again she had to be operated as the plate fitted in her right hand became loose due the reason that the bolts were broken and as such new plate had been fitted with 8 bolts.The doctors say that now there is a less space near elbow it is advisable to carry on and avoid any fall or injury and that we should respect the pain and take precautions in future.Further operation will be risky and the success rate is only 5 to 10 % that too in foreign countries. We are taking special care as per instructions of the doctors and are hoping against hopes.

After settling down at saket there was only one work left that was the marriage of my son. As Montoo was residing in America at Atlanta so it was a great job to concentrate on how to find a good match for my son, with great effort and lastly through news paper we had short listed some of the girls and waited for my son to come and finalized the matter, on final day Montoo came and then we started looking around for the good match few days later we came across Noopur our beloved daughter in law, the marriage was like a rapid fire round it was very quick so quick that we didn’t even had time for look around as Montoo had to leave for Us along with Noopur. All the process of Araya samaj marriage including register marriage in court was hurriedly done and we had completed the arrangements in a week’s time daughter in law and Montoo took the flight to USA as per fixed date.

After retirement I had booked my luggage to Saket and truck could not be unloaded as there was tenant in the first floor of my house.so truck had to wait for whole night and on the next day we could manage to unload the house hold material from the truck.As a matter of fact I came to Delhi as the tenant on the first floor had assured us that as soon as we were retired he would vacate the house and he had assured that he was a defence person and and that I could throw his luggage on the road if he did not keep his promise.Any way he vacated the house and we got the place to unload the truck .I was thankful to him .He wrote special letter of handing over with all the praise.Now the house was of very bad condition and we had to get it white washed and painted and there was all sorts of problems regarding water, electricity and property tax etc.I went to MCD and inquired from the office to find out the tax arrears I was shocked to note the property tax amounted to the tune of Rs 5 lacs was levied the worst of it that MCD had pasted a notice of auction and attachment of property.At the same time I met the authorities and they suggested that the property tax would be assessed on the cost of construction basis and it would be compared with rent agreements. At the same time I was advised to deposit a sum of Rs 1.50 lacs in three instalments of Rs 0.50 Lacs each .So I had to issue 3 cheques of Rs 50000/ each to settle the matter and summary trial was done and the matter was settled So I had to face the financial crunch.We temporarily stayed at Ghaziabad and carried on the work of white washing and painting on the first floor.In the mean while my mother in law was suffering from cancer and other complications and we had to attend her in Apollo hospital and later on at my brother in law "s house at Haus Khas New Delhi.After remaining in the hospital

she could not be treated and the hospital authorities had advised us to take her in the house and that she might get well in the homely atmosphere .She remained at the house after about 2 to 3 months but in spite of best efforts she could not become normal. One night as we were staying at Haus Khas we got a shock of life that on morning of 24 Th June 1999 she left for her heavenly abode.We all were in tears and as you know life is a great struggle and we all are just poppets in the hands of GOD THE ALMIGHTY.I along with our family members pay respectful sharandjali to the departed soul .

Gorakhpur Memories and retirement in year 1998 and return to retirement life.

While recollecting I remember that we had a trip to Nepal border and we hired the taxi van .We visited the bordering towns of Nepal.A t this time Anu had also with us and we enjoyed the pleasure of company of Ashi .It was a rainy day and the driver was driving the taxi very fast and it was night and the driver was not a reliable one and it was feared that he might involve us in some road accident .We purchased some items and and shoes etc.while crossing the border there was checking and the police officer said jokingly that we had purchased only shoes and most of Indians smuggle some costly items .to this we did not need as the goods were cheaper in India and that there was no need to purchase from Nepal.More over I being a class 1 officer used to follow the rules and law of our country.The driver also told that he remained with some dreaded dacoit who was killed near Delhi in police encounter.
In a second incident I along with my wife was strolling in evening around The Gol GHAR Bazar and it was about 8 pm .At the same time one J E met us there .He told me that we should avoid the to stroll in the evening in that bazaar. I inquired what was the reason.He told me that some times there was gang war of the two groups of gangsters and there might be firing and that any stray bullet might hit us during cross firing.From that onward we avoided to go to the market in the evening .
There was a temple of Gorakh Nath .It was worth seeing and we paid visits to that temple.The religious books of Gita Press Gorakhpur are world famous.Near Gorakhpur there are towns which are worth seeing. The great poet Sant Kabir was born at Sant Kabir Nagar .This town was previously known as Khalila Bad .There is a Kushi Nagar which is a sacred place for Buddhists.
I retired on 30 / 11 / 1998 and after getting g the pension I booked my luggage and reached Roorkee on 9/12/1998and after attending marriage of my sister's son at Dehradun we proceeded to Delhi. On reaching Delhi we were busy in settling the house and for some times I could not believe that I was retired. Continuing as the life is continuing...........at Saket .......in our own house..........

Wonderful memories of Gorakhpur and retirement in year 1998

As I had already mentioned that there was heavy rainfall in year 1998 in the month of July and August and I was given the charge of monitoring the floods and send the reports along with our own charge of the 3 divisions of Ballia, Mau , and Sant Kabir Nagar.In all the above divisions there was work of lift canals and there were high capacity pumps and the canals .The water is lifted by pumps and then this water reaches to the fields though canals by gravity flow.There used to be meetings in circuit house where some times the Ministers and chief minister used to discuss the position of the floods.I remember when I was visiting one of the earthen dam where it was reported that the beach had occurred and we had rushed there to stop the breach.As soon as I along with E E Sh V B Singh crossed the road the flood water came and the road was cut off. We were standing on the top of the dam and making efforts to plug the breach the MLA of that area arrived on the scene and he started slogans that ," Engineers are corrupt and that they had bungled the funds of floods and no villager was allowed to stop the breach." after convincing they were pacified and the then E E Sh . Singh distributed the wine pouch to the villagers and the labourers started work with great zeal and they dumped the boulders and the trees branches and at night they could not differentiate between tree branches and snakes and by the morning we could manage to pluck the breach otherwise it would brought great disaster and loss to the property and lives also.I thanked Sh Singh E E for his work and we returned after doing the work.Those years were very difficult for Engineers of irrigation department as the Govt had suspended about 453 Executive Engineers /Assistant Engineers for dereliction of duties.
I still remember that when the then Chief Minister Sh kalyan was holding the meeting with all the ministers in the circuit house of Gorakhpur.All the officers of Irrigation and P W D were summoned .There were cabinet and state ministers like Sh HARISH TIWARI,SH SP SHUKLA, SH MARKANDEY, SH AMAR MANI TRIPATHI etc attending the meeting .All the ministers had reported that the Engineers had tarnished the image of U P Govt and as such all the Engineers were dishonest and that they bungled the funds of Floods and so the dams were not being maintained properly.On the other hand the engineers were of the opinion that the funds were not made available in time therefore the contractors did not do the work and they pressed for their pending payments.In this way the work used to suffer.Had the funds be made available well on advance the work would not suffer .Some of the ministers raised the issue that the Executive engineer Sh.V. B .Singh should be suspended because he had tarnished the image of UP Govt.As I was monitoring the floods I was asked to explain .I stood up that and reported that sh Singh E E was with me and we tried to save the dam and the villages from floods by plugging the breach of dam.I further added that had sh Sihgh not worked on the dam we all would not had been conducting meeting in circuit house and that Gorakhpur would have been submerged with flood water.So engineers were not be blamed .The earthen dams were very old and these belong to the English rule period. In my statement I also referred that the Chief Minister had seen my work Atrauli district Aligarh and that I never recommend wrong person and I myself also tried to do the work according to the rules.The Chief Minister asked the then Engineer In Chief to express his opinion .The then Chief reported that it was quite correct.so the then chief minister spared Sh Singh and he was not suspended.As soon as the meeting ended the one of the Minister tried to molest me as I had taken side of our brother engineers.Any way the then DI G of police had escorted me to safety till the CM had left the place.In such a situation I had to pass as I spoke the truth.On the other hand the E E Sh Singh thanked me that I had saved his career.The engineers of other department also thanked me as I spoke on behalf of all engineers.On that day I felt so much elated and I felt that I had worked something good for others.
Another incident occurred that I was called for tour with minister Sh Tiwari and Sh Markandey to visit the flood effected areas.I along with my staff and E E S arrived at the residence of Sh Tiwari and we were made to wait in a temporary shelter of the huge farm house .It was said that Sh Tiwari had 2oo cows .After about half an hour Mr Tiwari started for tour and he sat in a white SUMO and there were about 10 SUMOS of white colour were following him and in the last the officers were travelling in their GOVT vehicles. In 10 Sumos there were Tiwaris body guards with arms and ammunition.After travelling some distance the sumos stopped and Sh Tiwari changed the sumo and sat in the middle so that any person who might be his enemy could not attacked .In this way they stopped in the way so many times.While visiting some village One of the Minister asked me to prepare the estimate to raise the village to which I directed my E E .But It was technical matter how the village could be raised? Any way we reached Mau and water of river was entering the village and any its direction was changed and the village was saved.Here Sh Tiwari asked me to leave the AE there and that he would control the situation .The A E had to escape from the site on the log of wood and thus saved his life.As a matter fact the A E had to spend night of captivity and any how was rescued.


When I retired I got so much of affection and respect which I never received in my life earlier .All the staff and public gave me befitting send off which I cannot forget.So many staff and public came to railway station to see me of .One of my JE was sh Maurya.and we used to call him as MAURYA SAHIB out of respect.One day he asked us why we call him sahib we told him that he was also our family member in the department and there was nothing wrong if we pay due respect to him. The circle staff and colleagues presented me the fare well letter properly framed and I am keeping it as our cherished memory.

Meerut Posting in Invetigation and Plannig as Executive Engineer

I remained at Meerut on the post of Executive Engineer from June 1993 to January 1997 .Here my period was peaceful in general baring some sad incidents. I was Lucky enough that my efforts bore fruits and I was promoted to the post of Superintending Engineer and got the Investigation and Planning circle Roorkee.Again I had to leave my family for some time at Meerut as I told that my both of my children were down with fever of chicken pox.I had shifted my luggage to Roorkee in June 1997 although I took the charge as S E in January 1997.We had good time at Roorkee and we had good accommodation near the canal.Later on again I got a good S E "s residence and it was was number one in Roorkee.I remained here for some time .Here I tell you that Montoo got the job in Delhi in some good company regarding computers .I did some mistake and applied to the U P govt that I might be transferred to Delhi or Okhla as there was a rule that last posting could be given near the home district.On this application I was ordered that I should join as S E Irrigation Works Circle 3 Gorakhpur on 2 June 1998 and the whole circle with records and staff was transferred to Gorakhpur.As it was matter of 6 months prior to retirement we had no shifted completely .I along with my wife went to Gorakhpur and stayed in A Inspection house and later on got the type 4 residence in Gandak canal colony In year 1998 there was great floods many earthen bunds of Gorakhpur were washed away due to floods and water being released from Nepal.I had seen so much water all around .Once it was feared that water might enter in Gorakhpur also.it was also said that highest rainfall had occurred and it had broken the records of last 100 years.Continuing...................

Meerut Posting in Invetigation and Plannig as Executive Engineer

While our stay at Meerut it was a fateful day as we were waiting eagerly for Montoo that he would join us on Deepawali Holidays and he would start from Delhi in the morning and reach Meerut nearly after 2 hours . Shashi was telling that Montoo would reach Meerut at night and I atonce stated that Montoo had already started from Delhi.As I uttered these words at the same time telephone rang and Anu picked the phone and that call was a horrible and it stated that Montoo met with an accident while coming to meerut .He along with Gaurav were on the motor bicycle and a truck hit him and Gaurav from behind and both were injured .It was by the grace of some family that took the both to Ghaziabad Hospital.I along with Shashi rushed to Hospital at Ghaziabad from Meerut and reached in one hour so. I did not know that with which speed I drove the car. On the way I had a narrow escape of any tragedy and mishap. I was grateful to Ramesh Bhapaji who reached hospital earlier from Delhi .As I saw Montoo he was having his leg up and a weight was hanging to keep it in stretched position.It was a difficult scene . I saw Gaurav also who got the injury on hand and fingers and operation was done later on to his fingers .As regards Montoo we took him to Meerut hospital the next day He was operated upon on right leg as the fever bone was broken and a rod was fixed in his leg.I was grateful to Lok Pirya Hospital and DR. Garg who did the operation .By the grace of God Gaurav and Montoo are alright.I also thank the then J E Mr.GARG who happily donated blood for operation.
Another incident also took place that Montoo and Anu fell ill simultaneously due to chicken pox.And a great care was needed and by grace of GOD all the difficult times were passed peacefully and we were spared by destiny of being harmed .We wish that GOD may remain kind enough in future also and shower HIS BLESSINGS on the whole families ..

Meerut Posting in Invetigation and Plannig as Executive Engineer

As I had mentioned that I worked at Jhansi as E E in Chief Engineer Betwa Jhansi office and then transferred to Meerut and then in yera 1993 transferred to Investigation and planning Division quality control Meerut.I joined in Meerut in June 1993 and for sometime stayed in Inspection house at Pallav Puram Irrigation colony Meerut. This place is situated near Modipuram opposite to Modi Tyres factory.It is a very good colony near Meeurt cantonment.There were 2 divisions one was water resources and other was of quality control .There were two circles one of water resources and other was of Investigation and planning and quality control.The quality control Divisions and circles were being funded by world bank .The duties were to check the quality of the work being done from world bank funds.There were several works being done in Meerut , Buland shar and Hapur etc.There were 2 to 3 A E S and 4 to 5 J E S to assist the work.I had toured to Bulandshar and some times to Hapur and inspected the Canals and its lining work were in progress.During the stay I had set working and and after completing the tenure of 6years 3 years at Jhansi and 3 years at Meerut total 6years I got promotion to the post of S E and transferred to Investigation and planning circle World Bank Roorkee.At Meerut I could serve my Bauji (respected father )being near to Delhi .I came to Delhi and requested my Bauji to accompany us to Meerut and he readily agreed .due to his age he had become weak and once it so happened that his harnea was entagled and we took him to Nursing home near Pul Begam and after sustained efforts by the then doctors he became alright.I remeber that the operation took 8 hours which usually takes 1 hour.After recovery he again went to Delhi and this time he again was sick and admitted to some good hospital near Paschim Vihar and discharged from the hospital and he again was willing to come to Meerut and we happily took him to Meerut.This time he remained well for some time but the condition deteriorated and we were not lucky enough to get him well although the doctors tried their best. Our Bauji left for his heavenly abode in January 1995.
We all were shocked and we could not save him . but you know that was destiny and nothing is in the hands of man . we all are to act as per wish of GOD THE ALMIGHTY. We all pay respectful homage and sharandajli to the departed noble soul.He used to love us all .He used to love Shashi , Anu and Montoo a lot Specially he respected Shashi the most as she had served him the most.He might had crossed 100 years had our eldest brother not met with an unfortunate road accident in 1973.It was difficult time and now we are left alone devoid of his love and with tears in our eyes ....................

Wonderful memories of Jhansi from 1981 onwards

Jhansi is a wonderful area having so many scenery and greenery around. There I visited so many sites and dams.A few I can mention which I had visited are mentioned below:
Mata tilla Dam , Pahari dam , Lahachura dam, Sprar dam ,Shahzad Dam , Raj Ghat Dam Sukhwan Dhukwan Dam , Jokhlon Pump canal,Dongri Dam Phuj Dam , Parichha Dam,Raksa ,and Dongri Dam.etc.While at Jhansi we had visited Chitra Kut Karwi a marvellous religious place along with sh R S Gehlot E E and his family and it was a memorable trip which we still relish the sweet memories.
I along my family used to go to Masiah Ganj Sipri Bazar Jhansi whenever we got time and enjoyed the life there at my in laws place..From Jhansi my daughter completed MA English and later MA History and my Son did his Mechanical Engineering from I T B H U Varanasi.( U P)In a nut shell we can say that Jhansi place was lucky for us.
In June 1993 I was transferred to Investigation and planning Division Quality Control Meerut and joined my duties at Pallav Puram Meerut Cantt. and my luggage was transported to Meerut in August 1993. I still remember the love and affection from staff and officers during my stay at Jhansi.Continuing......................

Wonderful memories of Jhansi from 1981 onwards

As I have mentioned that I had to face the then Deputy secretary regarding my promotion he told me that I had met him for 4 times and that I should had come in the meeting time that was 3 to 5 pm .I replied him that I had come on the orders of the then minister and that I would wait out side his office till 5 pm .To this he immediately uttered that , " Pata Nihin Kahan Se Sattu Kha ke Aa Jate Hain " then he told me that I should meet My Chief and there was one report missing and get the report available only then promotion could be considered and accordingly I had to pursue the matter about 6 months and remained at Lucknow and tried and tried again to get my due promotion .So many hurdles were there and acted as stumbling blocks in way of ones promotion .Even then I considered my self lucky that I got the promotion and thank the GOD THE ALMIGHTY and also retired safely without any blot .
One day my daughter went to School and we were informed that she met with an accident near LAS KALA crossing we rushed to the railway hospital and found that my daughter was running a vicky motor bi cycle and that she could not control the same and she dashed against a tractor at the crossing which was coming from the other direction.She was rushed to Doctor Chaubey"s clinic in Sipri bazar and she had to get stitches at the left ear to stop the bleeding.I hear that the scream and was sitting away from the clinic as I was so weak at heart that I was unable to see any one in pain.
I also remember that one day my son also tried hand in driving and he was entering the colony with my car and while manoeuvring hit one of the jeep of Sharmaji ( my friend)who was our colleague and nothing serious damage was done so he made no mistakes later on and was expert in driving .Anu and Montoo mostly used to drive Kinetic Honda scooter and scooter respectively from class 5 Th to 10 Th Montoo used to go to school on bi cycle and after that he used to drive car or jeep also.I did not know how and when they learnt the driving and now they are expert in driving.God bless them this is my wish.

Wonderful memories of Jhansi from 1981 onwards

As I have told that my golden period started at Jhansi. One day that Minister of Irrigation Sh Lok Pati Tripathi visited Jhansi and he delivered a public speech that the promotions in the department were delayed and it took about 20 years to get first promotion and as such he had promoted about 600 A E s to the post of E Es.I got up and told the minister that i was not promoted although I had completed more than 24 years on the post of A E .To this the then Minister told me that I might had bad reports to this query I replied that NOTHING WAS AGAINST ME.He called me to Lucknow and IO met him in his residence e just to get his annoyance as I met him in his residence.He directed me to his secretary .My encounter with Secretary will follow............

Wonderful memories of Jhansi from 1981 onwards

After completing the tenure of Lucknow posting I met the then Chief Engineer and requested that I should be transferred to Allahabad again as my children were getting education at Allahabad .I also told him that I had completed the quota of design and Investigation and planning .On this argument the then C E told me that he was unable to send me back to Allahabad and More so I had remained at Allahabad for about 8 years and the rule permitted was only for 3 years in any district. I then replied that C E could post me any where in UP and I would not mind.So he posted me to Jhansi UP.and I was very happy that I was getting the same district from where my wife belonged.I immediately joined my duties in 4 Th sub division of Irrigation Construction Division 6 Th Jhansi. I here point out from the date I did B E ( civil ) I was posted for the first time in Civil construction division in the previous years I was continuously being posted in mechanical divisions.After taking over I remained there for about 3 to 4 months and went to Allahabad to bring school certificates of children .I returned to Jhansi along with family.Anu got the admission in St Marry "s convent school so easily but there was a problem with Montoo as he passed from St Anthony "s school Allahabad .I told the Mr Augustin who was principal of Christ The KIng school Jhansi that my child was very intelligent and got good marks but he took him after difficulty and warned us that if he failed or could not get good marks in 6 class he would be reverted in the lower class.So after getting the admission We brought our luggage and car to Jhansi in May 1982.We on loaded the house hold material at the newly constructed type 4 residence at Dhukwan colony Jhansi. Alas in month of June 1982 there was a theft in my residence when my wife 's cousin brothers were staying .It was a great theft and I reported the matter to police but nothing could be traced.In my sub division the work of construction of staff quarters and type 4 residences in Sukhwan and Dhukwan colony were in progress .I remember that once a huge quantity of cement was received at JHANSI railway station in month of April and the cement was being unloaded from the coaches when the rain occurred and I had faced a difficult phase of life to save cement from getting wet and set .As I had not having space to store it I had to transfer it to other Divisions at the railway station .Some of the cement was carted to Lahchura Dam site in stores there .When I entered a newly constructed residence it also was leaking.Later on we had to do the tar felt coating on the roofs to stop leakages.I had been in charge of Dongri dam where the earth work in filling was in progress .The work was compacted and field soil tests were conducted to ensure complete safety of dam.Later on I was transferred i was transferred to I C D and I was given the charge of Lahchura Dam which was situated in Harpal Pur ChhaturGarh District.There were excavation work going on in rocky area and we had excavated material at site .I used to stay at Lahchura dam inspection house and it was a nice place.As I was the senior most AE I was given charge of I and P division 2 JHANSI
which was newly created at Jhansi and the recards were carried from Banda.As the records were being transported from Banda it so happened that some of the clerks also sat on the truck and got some injuries when truck was passing under the road barrier. I had got them admitted in the hospital.Here at Jhansi I had filed a case for promotion from the post of A E To E E and got senior grade and selection grade from the back date from the court.Later on I got promotion to the post of E E in month of MAY 1990 and was given the charge of attached post in the Chief Engineer ( BUNDEL KHAND) office.Jhansi. This was my the happiest day and I was in the seventh heaven of delight .The cause of my delayed promotion was that I was considered to be mechanical as I remained in tube well divisions for many years and left from being promoted .As E E attached in CE office I was given charge of checking the projects and estimates at chief engineer level. I was also sometimes given charge of some Divisions which fell vacant on account of some E E s who went on leave.I took charge of I C D 5 Jhansi also.Sh S C Mishra was my chief and he used to regard me so much.I remember him and wish him to be alright where ever he is. Before the posting of Sh S C Mishra CE my CE was SH Abdul Rahim who was also a nice officer.At Jhansi I remained much of time and cont forget the sweet memories..................and the place where I GOT MY FIRST PROMOTION.

Allahabad memories

Another interesting took place when I was entrusted a job to organise a budget meeting in the tubewell circle Allahabad and I being the SDO headquarters was seeing the arrangements.During the meeting when the SE was served with biscuits and tea ..As soon S E Mr Jain saw me That I was looking after the arrangements he inquired me whether that arrangement was mine I replied in the affirmative and he had a glance on the biscuits Ware it was written as A B C and he then got annoyed to the extreme and told me whether I was teaching him the ABC.I replied that ABC meant only Annapurna Biscuit Company and How could I teach ABC to the worthy SE.On this reply the meeting came to an early halt as the S E waved his hands in rage and all the tea cups were broken .I told my E E Sh Sarin That I told him earlier not to allow me to go in front of S E as he was annoyed with me since my posting at Meerut.In all I had to face a tough time in dealing with Se who was so inimical towards me.Later on he was transferred to Irrigation Workshop Circle KANPUR and I took a sigh of relief.He was befriended with me after a long time when I attended his mother ailing mother as I had mentioned earlier.When I was posted at I came in touch with the M L A
of PratapPur and Handia Sh Har Pratap Singh Yadav .I tried that I might be promoted but his Herculean efforts bore no fruits as the GOVT of U P . fell down and there were instructions that all the orders of previous govt were cancelled. That was my bad luck again.
Regarding the education of my children they were getting education in convent school.After completing the tenure at Allahabad I was transferred to Lucknow in Design Directorate in checking and co ordinating Division and Investigation circle and flood circle Lucknow.in year 1980 and remained there up to 1981 - 1982.I used to come to Allahabad from Lucknow some times daily or sometimes weekly to look after my family and kids.Life became very difficult.as there was no accommodation at Lucknow I had been living in Inspection House and later shifted to Darul Shaffa for some times. Darul Shaffa is huge building where the MLAs used to live.Here I had to sleep on the bare floor covered with mat or daries .These places are not worth living as the farmers used to keep on coming at any time disturbing all around.MLA S used to keep one room locked for himself and the rest two rooms were meant for their voters.Later on I was allotted a residence in Pari kulp Nagar near Pari Kulp Nidashalaya or C D D Lucknow.( Central Design Directorate)
I had commuted for about 2 years from Lucknow to Allahabad I had to get season pass made from Allahabad to Rai Bareily and from Rai Bareily to LUCKNOW.Some times I was stranded at some stations between Lucknow and Allahabad. I remember that once I was posted in flood duties and I had to communicate with police headquarters with wireless sets When I said," Ganga is rising "On the other side of the wireless set it was repeated by the police personal as " GOONDA IS RISING"With great difficulty we used to work on wireless sets.During my duty iI got the message that Bakshi Bund at Allahabad had breached and there was 4 to 5 feet water in the localities in Allahabad .I got perplexed and demanded leave to go to Allahabad .As I reached Allahabad I found water up to my shoulders deep.I kept my bag on my head and any how reached my house I found that my Fiat car was submerged in water and my family was sitting at the first floor and all the residents also took shelter on the roof tops.This time of condition remained for about 15 days and water receded from the colonies .I had to extend the leave on account of this.Later I was transferred to civil sub division at Jhansi and joined my duties at Jhansi. Allahabad memories

I recollected that while we were at Allahabad my daughter developed a big bowl at the head and I consulted the Doctor who advised us for operation .But I was advised by Mr Batra that it would be alright by homeopathy and he gave the medicine which and after some time the bowl became red and it automatically healed up and all the puss was oozed out.He was such a nice person that I used to consult him in all matters.One day I was sitting so tensed he inquired from me what was the matter? I told him that I was getting false complaints.He told me not to get upset and always remember GOD when in depression
I told him some body among Netas or contractor was black mailing me. I told him that some ordinary envelope had been received and that I was threatened that i should place Rs 30000/ bag near the Sobatia Bagh railway bridge if I failed to do so I had to face serious consequences and that my two children would killed . In this threatening letter the address was given as ,"Himat Singh 440 Volts "It was also instructed that I should not inform to the police.I was so frightened and on the advice Mr Batra I sent my wife along with the children to Patna where my eldest brother was living.I was feeling suspicious on every person who used to meet me in office.I used to take some precautions and never went alone on inspections .In those a picture named Benam was being screened in picture halls.In the storey I remember that Amitabh Bachan was facing such problem and mystery surrounded and his son was kidnapped. later on the story was ended .But I was thinking as if it might happen with me .Mr Batra told me that I should not show my nervousness in any case and the threatening letters would automatically stop.His this advice gave me courage and I was able to work quite peacefully there after.
One day it so happened that Mr R N Tandon told me that I would soon be promoted to the post of Executive Engineer and the date was I remember as 25/10/1977.Mr Tandon had by that time was promoted to the post of Chief Engineer tube wells.Later on I was shocked that I could not be promoted as there was separate gallary for ST /S C castes and I belong to higher caste.I
was superseded and my juniors were promoted

Allahabad memories

While when I was holding charge of store sub division I was ordered to attend the auction of burnt copper wire in Baghara stores in Allahabad .As I was holding the auction in stores I noticed that some robbers known as Bharata Daku appeared 0n the scene.They were 3to 4 in numbers .The highest bidder was a party from Meerut.The party was carrying some money about Rs 80000/to be deposited in Division office as the security .As there was frightened scene in the stores the party immediately
passed on the bag containing money to his son .The party at that point alleged that we had invited the robbers which was quite wrong.I inquired from the robbers that how they knew that the auction was to be held in the stores.They informed that they had all the information s. They further added that they also go the auction in defence also.Then They immediately ordered that the party who was successful would be liable to pay their tax which they announced to be 10 % of the total bid amount.I inquired from them whether they came to our store earlier ? to this question they replied that they had taken some bags of grain earlier.This grain was stored in store for distribution to the tube well operators against food for work programme in those days.
The store keeper had to make good the loss to govt by the store keeper from his own pay.On seeing this scene the driver of jeep also wanted some money and he stopped the jeep and he asked that he could not drive jeep in such a dangerous situation when there were so many rifles.The party was scared and paid some money to the driver and requested the driver to leave him safely to Division office.The driver again stopped that he wanted more from the party as the robbers were chasing us .The party any how again paid some more money and we reached division office I then narrated the whole story to the then E E,As I was complaining against the driver regarding his high handedness and bad behavior the driver immediately levelled factitious charges against me.At this I was very much annoyed .In the division office I reported that no auction could be held and that he would conduct the auction in future if the proper police protection was given
Another incident I remember when I was given to start work on certain tube well and the villagers were opposing the alignment of the gul and they had made hut on the govt land and the land was properly acquired properly under land Acquisition Act.At this Point I had to call the PAC (Provincial Armed constabulary).As the work started the villagers started pelting stones on us and on e stone hit the then J E sh Maqbool Alam he was rushed to hospital. Under pressure from the villagers the then E E and SE had to change the alignment of the water channel (gul)To narrate this story I want to convey that to adhere to rules was not easy in those days also as is the situation now .I also tend to convey that Allahabad was a very sensitive place and it was not easy to serve there.In those days it was commonly known that Allahabad had produced 3 Prime Ministers for India.
After so much turmoil I was transferred to Phulpur Sub Divisin of Allahabad .The Phulpur Tehsil used to be the constituency of Late Shrimati Vijay Laxmi Pandit ( Sister of Late Sh Jawahar Lal Nehru ji )As Phulpur was about 30 to 40 Km away from Allahabad I had not shifted my family to Phulpur as the children were getting education at Allahabad.I had to go to Phulpur daily to attend my duties there.One day it so happened my son was not well and I returned from the site very late as there was no means available I found Shashi weeping and Mr J.C Batra was attending my son.Mr J .C Batra was a good homeopath .Due to his help my son was alright after taking his prescribed medicine.I am grateful to him for his timely help.I also con"t forget his annoyance that I was not attending my son and just doing the govt duty.I was understanding that the advice of Mr Batra was perfectly alright.I wish that I could meet him as he has shifted here in Delhi but since long I could not contact him .
As reported that Mr Jain who was my E E long ago became my SE again at Allahabad.He once called me to his office and told me that he wanted to inspect the tube wells in my sub division in Phulpur section.When he was inspecting the tube well he ordered me to show him where was the mistry kit and volt metre and ampere meter etc .At this he left me on the way and I could come back to headquarter by the help of J E who brought me back.I did"t know what was wrong with me as such I refuted some of the charges and tried to pull on with him.Once I felt as soon as I noticed him I used to start vomit ting due high blood pressure.Lastly he gave me a very good report .By that time it so happened that his mother was ill and admitted in Ram Manohar Lohia Hostital NEW DELHI My SE approached me that I should help him as I was a resident of Delhi .I took leave and came to Delhi and attended
his ailing mother Smt Angoori Devi Once so happened that the medicine was needed at night so I had to rush to SAHIB SINGH AND SONS CHEMIST at cannaught Place NEW DELHI .This chemist shop remained opened 24 hours .Once I had to take lift of ambulance to bring the medicine.Although his mother could not survived but we did our
best .I pray to GOD that the departed souls should rest in peace under the Divine feet of ALMIGHTY GOD.

While recollecting I remember that one of E E called me from Handia for some govt work and I came to Allahabad and went to his residence to inquire about the urgent work for which I had been summoned.After waiting for so many hours the then E E came out and told the funny job to perform.He told me that he was having a nest of honey bee and that queen bee ( Rani Mukhi) has left that Chhatta and I was to find the Rani bee and that I should talk to agriculture officer to find it when the Rani bee was supposed to return.accordingly I went to contact the agriculture people on that issue.The agriculture officer replied that the Rani bee would return after sometime and told me that I should inform the E E.He also showed astonishment on the job I was given by my boss.I then only replied that we had to obey the orders of my boss.As all this work took much time and it was night then E E had arranged my back journey .I felt so tired and was just wondering philosophy of the then E E .He was a unique E E and all used to respect him due to his age and seniority.I respected him and now I bow my head to the departed noble soul. continuing...............................

Continuing the memories of Allahabad I remember that one day at night at Handia there was great nose that leopard might strike and as such we had to keep all the doors closed and also we had lighted fire to scare away the animal.the staff of the colony used to say that the leopard could jump the boundary wall of the house.Any nothing happened.But we had started to get the better sub division at Allahabad .Luckily the re organisation of the sub division took place and I got the sub division whose head quarter at Allahabad.In new set up I had retained some tube wells of Handia and Saidabad and handed over the charge of PratapPur section to other A E .As such I had to stay at Handia for about 6 months in year 1973 .I shifted to Allahabad and stayed in hotel for sometime and then I got one accommodation on rent .This hose was located in Alopi Bagh near GITA NIKETAN MANDIR.I was holding this house for my office cum residence.Alopi Bagh is located near Dara Ganj Allahabad.Here we got friend ship with Sh J.C.Batra and family who were living opposite to our house.The rented house pertained to Col. Khare who was a nice fellow.I got Anu admitted in Golden JUBLEE ENGLISH MEDIUM SCHOOL ,civil Lines Allahabad at the age about 3 years.And she used to go to school on rickshaw.After some time she got admission in Saint Merry Convent School.I remember that birth day Of Montoo when the staff and contractors and some villagers and neighbours assembled and some of the contractors opened fire in the air as mark of happiness on the auspicious occasion.I just fondly remember the moments when I used to sit in my office and do the work Montoo used to sit me and some times used to sleep and I used to ask some body to take him in side .All the staff used to love him very much .In year 1975 it was proposed that Mundan ceremony of Montoo should be performed and all the relatives were invited from Delhi.We had a good gathering and all the function was organised in befitting manner. Here our neighbour s were of very good nature.On the left side Banerji family was living and on the right side Mr Singh used to live.On the gate of Mr Singh house it was written that ," KUTE SE SAVDHAN , and Keere SE Savdhan," and Montoo in his childhood used to read as .TEERE SE SAVDHAN and TUTTE SE SAVDHAN"When I used to go for evening walk he used to sit on my shoulders and I showed him the moon happily and enjoying.
